You may have friends and family who say preppers are plenty radical. The mainstream media uses the term “prepper” as a negative label. But leaving aside the name calling, when push comes to shove, is our prepping radical enough?
That’s a question pondered on this week’s DestinySurvival Radio. But before I go on, I need to issue an explanation about this week’s show.
Why a Special Edition of DestinySurvival Radio?
Because I’m paying tribute to a dear, departed friend.
I’m presenting one from the archives for you today because it has special significance for me. Forgive me if that sounds self serving, but bear with me because I think you’ll appreciate the thought provoking discussion you’ll hear.
Who Was This Guy Anyway?
On October 23, 2014, my good friend Gerald Franz died at the age of 79. Geralde was like a father to me and was certainly a mentor. In the summer of 2012 he had a stroke and heart attack, and we nearly lost him then. He finally succumbed to the effects of a slow acting form of leukemia. My wife and I were his caregivers and were at his bedside when he died.
It was Gerald who awakened in me the need to be prepared in the 1990’s, prior to the Y2K scare. In spite of what didn’t happen, I’d guess there are few who prepared then who have any regrets about doing so.
I want to give you a glimpse into the kinds of things Gerald thought about as well as what we often talked about. So on this week’s showI’m replaying a conversation we had back on June 16, 2011. That was the first of two interviews Gerald did with me for DestinySurvival Radio. Incidentally, you’ll be surprised by how much we said then that relates directly to today.
Gerald pushed me and others he knew beyond their comfort zones with his unique perspective. He didn’t claim to be an expert, as you’ll hear from our conversation. But he could certainly put forth challenging ideas on a number of subjects. You can see his writings at a blog called The Last Robin, and you can see my tribute called “…He Being Dead Yet Speaketh”.
By the way, one of Gerald’s written pieces can be seen on this site, too. He wrote posts on survival under the pseudonyms of George Prell and Karl. My early posts featuring conversations with Survival Sam are representations of the kind of talks Gerald and I had over the years.
He often left comments on things I’ve posted on this site. And he gave me numerous ideas for posts to write about and products to promote.
What’s the Connection to Radical Prepping?
Gerald told me several times in the months before he died that he felt sorry for those of us who would be left behind because of the horrors we’d have to live through. Things like Fukushima radiation, Ebola, GMO foods, climate geoengineering, the intensification of the police state, and economic collapse.
So, the questions arise. Are we as preppers radical enough to face what may be coming our way? Are we really preparing for the worst? Is it even possible to do so?
Contemplate these questions, and more, by listening to DestinySurvival Radio for October 30, 2014. (Right click to download.) If you’re curious, see what I wrote about the original airing of this interview with Gerald Franz by clicking here.
