It’s a high quality, professionally produced DVD called “Emergency Preparedness–Awareness & Survival.” This isn’t one of those embarrassing YouTube clips of some guy shining his shaky flashlight on the storage food in his basement.
Apogee Communications Group is a video and film production company which produces award winning educational, training, marketing, medical and television programs for an international market. Arthur is the Director of Photography and Producer.
He and his company have won more than 121 awards. Major clients include ABC, CBS, NBC Networks, Paramount Pictures, and major international corporations. In addition to news and documentaries, he’s shot many medical programs, political commercials, training, marketing programs, and video news releases.
I could go on, but you get the idea. He’s got a long list of impressive credentials as a radio and TV journalist which you can view on his site. You and I have likely seen his work and didn’t know he was the guy behind it.
You might say Arthur’s an old school journalist who’s not out to be sensational. His DVD doesn’t have a political slant. And he’s not a fear monger. That gives credibility to the educational material on this DVD.
I was honored and humbled to have him on my show. And he was an easy guest to interview.
Because of his journalistic background, Arthur has seen the aftermath of earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires and more. So many people are caught unprepared. Therefore, he set out to put together this material to help people get ready.
But he’s had his own brush with natural disaster, too. This past summer he faced danger from the massive fires which affected Boulder. He didn’t evacuate, but came close. Fortunately, he was well equipped to shelter in place.
Being prepared is effective and does work.
However, unless you have similar experience to his as a former firefighter and EMT, it wouldn’t be advisable to stay put in such a situation. If you get the order to evacuate via reverse 911, it’s best to leave.
It’s a well produced video lasting just under 90 minutes.
It’s an updated edition of a video first produced in 1999 and 2006. There’s a lot of new information in the current edition, which has only been out a few weeks.
My first impression was that it covers a lot of basic information. But it’s surprisingly thorough, considering the fact that many subjects covered could easily warrant their own dedicated DVD. A lot of info is packed in a short amount of time.
If you’ve been prepping a while, you’ll be familiar with what’s being discussed. Nonetheless, you won’t feel talked down to. You’ll get tips and points you might not have thought of.
This DVD would make an excellent gift to introduce a family member or friend to preparedness.
It’s divided into segments or chapters, and you can watch all of it at once or any chapter you choose. Here’s what it covers.
- Water filtration and storage
- Food–dehydration, canning, freeze dried, MRE’s
- Fire safety
- What to do in electrical outages–including emergency lighting, generators
- Communications–shortwave radio, ham radio, NOAA weather radio, police and fire communications, personal beacons and smart phones

A number of products are demonstrated in Arthur’s presentation, but he doesn’t sell any of them. They’re examples of items you might want to have. “Emergency Preparedness” is educational, and is sold to many schools and libraries. It’s not an infomercial. You can, of course, get many of the featured prepping supplies from DestinySurvival sponsors.
Hear my interview with Arthur Levy when you listen to DestinySurvival Radio for October 25, 2012 You can order “Emergency Preparedness” from http://www.apogeevideo.com or call 1-800-210-5700. You might find other DVD’s of interest there as well.
Incidentally, I make nothing from the sales of Arthur’s DVD’s. As far as I know, “Emergency Preparedness” isn’t carried by any of my affiliates or advertisers. The version on Amazon is the 2006 edition, not this new updated one. I’ll update this post if that changes.
