Donna Miller Shares Blockbuster Prepper Wisdom Your Family Needs for Survival During Hard Times

Yesterday’s DestinySurvival Radio may be one of the most significant shows I’ve ever done. If you agree with me that attitude and mindset are crucial for survival, then you’ll want to hear this show. The insights shared could very well revolutionize your way of thinking about prepping.

My guest was Donna Miller of Miller’s Grain House. Her family lived through an agonizing year the likes of which all too many can identify with in today’s economy.

Donna’s been a guest on my show a few times before, and I’ve been on her show, Your Preparation Station. She’s easy to talk to and always has something interesting to say. We’re both believers in Christ and talk about our faith freely with one another and our listeners. But we hadn’t talked about her family’s “rough patch” year before.

In a nutshell, during 2008-2009 her husband only received about a month’s pay from the company he consulted for. The family was forced to live on food they’d set aside as well as what they grew in their garden.

Selling possessions and bartering weren’t enough to keep them from losing their home. They moved to a different state and are now working on the home which will be their intended permanent location.

But God’s provision was evident throughout their ordeal.

Amazingly, they had enough food to get by on during that year. God blessed Donna with resourcefulness and creativity in the kitchen as well.

People came along at just the right times to offer help or exchange goods and services.

Resetting priorities and downsizing helped the family survive. Even though they had been practicing preparedness for over 20 years, what they went through wasn’t what they’d planned for or expected.

Donna spoke from the heart. She shared the kind of wisdom that can only be gained by experience in the school of hard knocks and a walk with the Lord. Here’s a sampling of key points she made.

  • Things you’re counting on for security can change.
  • Connecting with other people is vital.
  • Preparedness hinges on where your treasure is. (Jesus said in Luke 12:34, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”)
  • Be aware that things won’t go the way you expect, and be ready for uncertainty.
  • Be open and honest with your family and others.
  • Value and maintain close family bonds. Don’t lose those precious family relationships.
  • Stay positive about what the Lord is doing.
I encourage you to take the time to hear Donna’s story and insights by listening to DestinySurvival Radio for August 9, 2012. In fact, I believe you’ll want to listen to it more than once to glean all that’s meant for you.

Also, you can hear Your Preparation Station with Donna Miller Saturday evenings at 8 PM Eastern, or 7 PM Central Time on the Preparedness Radio Network.

I also encourage you to take a look at Prepare Magazine and get a free digital subscription by going to PrepareMag.com. The August issue is just out in digital form and focuses on alternative health. In a few weeks the first hard copy print issue will be released.

What do you think? Can you relate to Donna’s experiences and the lessons learned? Do you have preparedness related insights you’ve gleaned from particularly tough times? Leave a comment and help out other preppers.
