Build Family Bonds While You Help Teach Your Children

The prepping lifestyle offers you and me the opportunity to take control of key aspects of our lives. Teaching your children should be one of those.

Of course, this can be difficult. For example, what if your child is struggling with school? What if he’s gifted?

Rebecca J. Ensign of Gold Leaf Press was my guest yesterday on DestinySurvival Radio for Part 2 of a discussion on the resource for parents called Help Teach Your Children. Part one was on DestinySurvival Radio for July 21, 2011.

Ensign believes strongly that parents must be engaged with their children’s education because of the challenges we face in our 21st century society. Help Teach Your Children gives needed guidance to families regardless of whether the kids attend public school or are home schooled.

We discussed the essential skills Help Teach Your Children builds. They’re summarized by four C’s–Creativity, Collaboration, Communication and Critical Thinking. These skills are developed as parents and children draw closer through conversation and deliberate, meaningful interaction.

I brought up the example set by the Hein family, who I featured a couple months back on DestinySurvival Radio. They read books to one another and make up stories in round robin fashion. Those are great ways to foster those four C’s.

If you’re going to face adversities, you need to pull the family together. Invest whatever time and energy this takes. That may seem like a tall order, but don’t give up.

Those of us who are parents have a teaching role we must not under estimate. You as the parent or guardian can do what no one else can do for your children. You know them best. There’s so much more Rebecca Ensign and I discussed that I recommend you listen to the whole DestinySurvival Radio for July 28, 2011.
