The first thing we talked about was the Spin-Lid buckets she sells. It was a YouTube video about those buckets which brought us into contact in the fall of 2008. My first post on Spin-Lid buckets has been one of my most popular.

Donna didn’t grow up living the preparedness lifestyle. She began after she and her husband were married. Though she’s been developing her lifestyle over those years, she says if she can do it, anybody can do it.
Her preparedness was put to the test when her family’s personal situation required them to live for a year on the food they’d stored and what they grew in their garden. That proved to be a valuable experience.
Miller’s Grain House came about in a rather unusual way. Yet like so many good ideas, personal necessity bore fruit.
After a diagnosis of gluten sensitivity in 2004, Donna bought a grain mill and started grinding her own grain. She discovered her homemade bread didn’t cause gluten sensitivity symptoms. She believes processed, deadened flour in food causes problems, not gluten in whole wheat.
Donna started sharing what she knew with others. Her husband suggested she go into business. So she did. She says her husband is her biggest cheerleader today.
In addition to her business web site, Donna has a YouTube channel with several dozen videos on stretching food dollars, preparing various recipes, milling your own wheat, and more.
Donna has a passion to share with others the skills that haven’t been taught to most for the past generation or two. She gets her message out by teaching classes, primarily on bread making. Click on Classes & Retreats on her site for more info.

She does all this because she likes playing with her food (as she puts it), having new friends and passing on skills she learned the hard way.
Many times people go to the Miller’s Grain House site looking for products to help them live a healthier lifestyle. Some start asking her about prepping when they see Donna’s emphasis on it. She wants to share the message that the proper tools and proper nutrition are important for preparedness.
At the time of our chat, Donna observed that many people were no longer afraid to ask questions about prepping. And a number of people are nervous about what might happen.
