Every Survival Kit Needs a G.I. Can Opener

A couple of days ago I saw a blog entry praising the little military G.I. can opener, and I realized the writer was on to something. Every survival kit should have at least one.

These little can openers are small, but work well and are a clever invention. They’re great for carrying on a key ring or including in a pocket survival kit.

You never know when you’ll need to open a can. And the last thing you want is to be unable to get at what’s inside, all for want of a small gem of a tool.

The P-38 or the P-51 come in various price ranges with five, ten or fifteen to a package. Why not get a package or two and give a few as gifts?

Unfortunately, I can no longer offer this item directly through a certain online source I was formerly associated with. Therefore, I recommend doing an online search. I apologize for the inconvenience. However, I wanted to at least plant the idea for these little can openers in your mind.

  1. I work in a surplus store and these little bad boys are a hot seller. I have three that I have bought. I found that the p-51 isn’t very good. They have a tendency to bend. The p-38 is smaller but works really good and it won’t bend on you.

    1. Thanks for the tip. I saw an Amazon review speaking unfavorably about the P-51, but I wasn’t sure if it was a general observation or a remark about the batch that particular person’s package came from.
