Solar Storms–Survival Threat or Dazzling Light Show?

Sunday the sun started spitting out plasma in a coronal mass ejection and sent it earthward. As so often happens, some predicted disruptions to satellites and the power grid. It’s not out of the question as the video below explains.

On the other hand, maybe nothing more will come of it other than pretty displays of the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. I’ve heard they’ve been seen this week as far south as Michigan. In 1989 they were seen as far south as Texas, and power was disrupted in Quebec.

If anything more significant happened as a result of this week’s solar activity, I’m not aware of it. Did I miss something? Are we not being told? If something major should happen one day, might it be blamed on perceived enemies setting off an EMP (electromagnetic pulse)?

Whether we have a killer solar storm or just a fantastic light show in the night sky, be aware of the potential for the sun to change life as we’ve known it. Keep your survival supplies well stocked.
