Survival Now with Gold for Cash?

For some time now we’ve been barraged with radio and TV ads to help people get out of credit card debt. More recently we’ve been subjected to ads from companies wanting to buy any scrap gold you have around. Both are commentaries on the state of the economy and how it has turned around in the past couple of years.

Should you sell any gold if you have it? If so, how and where?

The price of gold is on an upward swing at the moment. There are plenty who want you to buy gold now as an investment or for currency later. But it’s those high gold prices that are causing many with gold jewelry to cash it out.

What should you do if you’ve got gold chains, bracelets, earrings, etc.? Should you deal with the guy on TV who says to send it in so he can send you big bucks? Should you go to a gold party?

While your jewlry may have some value, it’s valued by its weight. A reputable jeweler can tell you what it weighs and what it’s worth. He can tell you if it’s more than scrap.

Sending your jewelry to gold dealers and going to gold parties can get you ripped off. Getting cash for what your gold is really worth will take some diligence.

Go to three reputable jewelers to get their appraisal and an offer. Go with the highest bidder and haggle a little. You’re not going to get the spot price for gold because jewelers are going to take their cut for doing business. Nonetheless, you’ll still get a good price.

If you have good jewelry you want to sell, you could try your hand at selling on eBay or Craigslist. Be careful there, too.

If you’re among the many who are selling heirlooms and family treasures, all the best. I hope you can use the money well for what you need. Remember, think survival.
